How I treat Trauma:
Trauma, in mental health terms, refers to the emotional, psychological, and physiological residue left behind by profoundly shocking or disturbing experiences. These experiences, whether singular events or an accumulation of smaller incidents, can profoundly impact an individual's ability to function, relate to others, and experience joy. They can create intense emotional responses, leading to conditions like post-traumatic stress Injury (PTSI)/post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, depression, and more.
In treating trauma, I employ an integrative approach that combines Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Brainspotting, and Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART). CBT works by helping clients identify and challenge negative thought patterns, allowing for a cognitive restructuring that promotes healthier thinking and behaviors. Brainspotting is a method where specific eye positions are utilized to target trauma's physical and emotional fallout, tapping into the brain's innate self-scanning and self-healing abilities. Meanwhile, ART uses rapid eye movements combined with guided visualization to modify how traumatic memories are stored in the brain, introducing positive images to counterbalance the negative emotions tied to the trauma. By merging these techniques, I work directly and kindly with clients, ensuring the therapeutic journey is gentle and effective, leading towards healing and restoration.
